Wiltshire County Cricket Board - Indoor Cricket Finals 2010
This year produced interesting Semi Final combinations with one new team in Marlborough, the return of last years champions Winsley and the return to this stage of the competition to South Wilts and Swindon Asians. The 1st semi final was between Swindon Asians CC (representing the Swindon League ) and Marlborough CC (representing the Savernake Forest Indoor League). The 2nd semi final was between Winsley CC (representing the Chippenham League) and South Wilts CC (representing SADICA.).
The eventual winners were South Wilts beating Marlborough in the final. Congratulations to all at South Wilts.
Indoor Cricket - National Rounds
Following Winsley's success in the county final against Burbage and Eastern Royal they have managed to win their first round of the national finals, beating Wales by 2 wickets. Winsley now go on to play Hampshire champions Havant CC on 1st March.
Wiltshire County Cricket Board - Indoor Cricket Finals – 2009
The finals of the Wiltshire Indoor Cricket were held on Sunday 8th February at Castledown Sports Centre. The format of the finals day involved two semi fianls then a final. The first of these semi finals was between Burbage & Eastern Royal and Amport with Burbage wining a closely fought game by 11 runs. Everybody contrbuted to Burbage's first inning score of 144-3 and then through an excellent fielding display Burbage managed to restrict Amport to 133-6, an innings which included four run outs.
The second semi final was played between Winsley and Wootton Bassett. Batting first Winsley posted 115-6 with Neil Harris top scoring on 35. In reply Wootton Bassett could only manage 89-6 despite Joe Lukens' effort of 41. Winsley therefore went through to the final as winners by 26 runs and played Burabge and Eastern Royal.
In the final Winsley batted first and through some fine contributions from Rob Murphy (57no) and Neil Hussey (30 no) managed to score a very good total of 127-4. Burbage and Eastern Royal made a very good effort to chase down this target, thanks in main to David Cope who scored 50. However, a tight bowling display from Winsley, led by Neil Harris with figures of 2 for 9 from 3 overs, meant that Burbage finished 15 runs short on 112-6. This left Winsley as the winners of the Wiltshire Indoor Cricket competition for 2009.
Thanks go to everybody who contributed to the running and administration of indoor cricket during 2009. Without their hard work and commitment the competitions would not be possible.
County Indoor Cricket
At present there are four Indoor Cricket Leagues operating within Wiltshire. These are the Chippenham Indoor Cricket League, Salisbury and District Indoor Cricket Association, Savernake Forest Indoor Cricket League and the Swindon Indoor Cricket Association.
Currently the four leagues play out their seasons individually and from this provide a champion to compete at a county finals day held in early February of the following season. The winner from this competition then goes on to represent the county at the ECB National Indoor Competition which is run primarily by Patrick Mahoney, competitions manager for the ECB.
The games consist at the moment of a preliminary round in late February followed by the Regional Finals which are held at the Somerset School of Excellence at Taunton in early March. The winners from this venue then travel to the Indoor School at Lords for the finals.
