Wiltshire vs. Dorset - 23/24/25th August (Championship)
Wiltshire finished their 2009 season with a narrow 4 run defeat to Dorset at Dean Park, Bournemouth. This was a disappointing result as Wiltshire had dominated the match until mid way through the 2nd day when the Dorset record breakers took over. Nick Park recorded the highest ever score by a Dorset batsman in the Minor Counties making 219 and he shared in a record 10th wicket stand for Dorset with David Kidner (54 not out) of 157.
Dorset won the toss on the first day and were soon in trouble losing 9 wickets before lunch and were all out for 127 just after lunch. Nick Park with 46 and brother Chris Park with 31 were the only players to make double figures. For Wiltshire James Hibberd took 3 for 14, Dominic Webb 2 for 49 and Greg Lamb 4 for 44 (including a hat trick). Wiltshire started aggressively but had lost 3 wickets for 53 when Greg Lamb joined Ben Walker and they put on 136 for the 4th wicket with Walker making 40 and Lamb a run a ball century finishing on 113. Both Michael Coles and Tom Morton scored 23 and James Hibberd finished with 35 not out as Wiltshire declared on 300 for 9 in 60 overs leaving Dorset to bat for half an hour on the first day. For Dorset Tom Hicks took 4 for 98 and Ed Denham 3 for 54.
Dorset had reached 35 without loss at the end of day one and continued well on the second day with an opening stand of 147 between Glyn Treagus (51) and Nick Park. Wickets then began to fall regularly and when the 9th wicket fell at 257 in mid afternoon their lead was only 87. Then came the record breaking stand between Park and Kidner which was finally broken when Park was out and the total stood at 414, leaving Wiltshire 242 to win. Wes Durston bowled 38 overs to take 5 for 128, Greg Lamb took 2 for 80 and Josh Pickering 2 for 70. By close of the 2nd day Wiltshire had reached 71 for the loss of 2 wickets. Wes Durston was soon out for 48 on the 3rdday and Wiltshire slumped to 171 for 7 when James Hibberd (35 not out) joined Tom Morton (35) and these took the score to 223 when Morton was out. Hibberd with Josh Pickering took the score to 237 when 2 wickets fell in 3 balls to give Dorset the win by 4 runs. Tom Hicks took 6 for 82 and Glyn Treagus 2 for 28.
Wiltshire finished 8th in the Western Division of the Championship.

James Hibberd has decided to stand down as Wiltshire’s captain after one year in charge in order to concentrate more on his own game. His successor will be appointed by the County Committee at their meeting in October.
Wiltshire vs. Berkshire - 9/10/11th August (Championship)
Wiltshire lost their latest Minor Counties Championship match against Berkshire at South Wilts Cricket Club on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday by an innings and 35 runs. Berkshire won the toss and chose to bat in good conditions scoring 331 for 6 wickets in their 90 overs. They started with a opening stand of 142 between David Barnes (75) and Dan Shilvock (70). Jono Mclean scored 30, James Morris 42 and Richard Logan made 50 not out off 28 balls to finish the innings. For Wiltshire James Hayward bowled 28 overs to take 3 for 117 and Michael Coles 27 overs 1 for 72.
Wiltshire started badly against the pace of Richard Logan and at the close of play were 46 for 5. On the second day they were soon all out for 60 with only Steve Bullen (13) making double figures. Richard Logan took 4 for 32 and left arm spinner Chris Peploe 4 for 5. Wiltshire were asked to follow on and fared better and by close of play which came early at 6.00pm after rain were 150 for 7 with Michael Coles 52 not out and James Hibberd 46 not out. Ben Walker had made 26. On the last day, Hibberd was soon out for 47. Coles continued to play well and he and Pat Turk (22) put on 28 for the 8th wicket and then Coles and Nick Harrison (4 not out) put on 54 for the 9th wicket with Coles completing a well deserved century. He was finally out for 106 off 190 balls and Wiltshire were all out for 236. For Berkshire Richard Logan took 4 for 62 and Chris Peploe 4 for 61.

Wiltshire vs. Herefordshire - 26/27/28th July (Championship)
Wiltshire had their first win in the Minor Counties Championship when they beat Herefordshire by 133 runs at Corsham on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday. Put in to bat in damp and overcast conditions on Sunday, Wiltshire struggled against the steady Herefordshire seam bowlers on a day when only 42 overs were bowled on the day because of rain and they had reached 166 for 6 wickets at the close. Play could not start until 2pm on the second day after the overnight rain and Wiltshire were all out for 226 after 61 overs. Six batsmen reached 20 but none went on to score 40. Eddie Abel scored 30, Jon Chandler 28, Michael Coles and James Hayward 23 each and Tom Morton 34. For Hereford, Faisal Shahid took 5 for 57. Herefordshire started badly and at one time were 90 for 7 before a stand of 76 between Tom Austwick (58) and James Shackleton (26) for the 8th wicket and they were all out for 175 in 52 overs. For Wiltshire, 17 year old Dominic Webb on debut took 2 for 23, James Hibberd 2 for 30 and Michael Coles 3 for 18.
Wiltshire started their 2nd innings with 12 overs remaining on the 2nd day and batting aggressively had reached 65 without loss at close of play with Jon Chandler 50 not out. They continued in the same vein on the final day and when Chandler was out for 71 the score stood at 118. Eddie Abel, who scored 101 and Greg Lamb with 66, put on 140 for the second wicket before Lamb was run out on the stroke of lunch. Wiltshire batted for one over after lunch when they lost 2 wickets before declaring at 265 for 4 and set Herefordshire 317 to win in a minimum of 60 overs. Herefordshire were soon in trouble and at one time were 95 for 7 before a stand of 51 between David Exall (70 not out) and James Shackleton (34) took the score to 146 when Shackleton was out and when Michael Coles took the final wicket there was just 1 over remaining as Herefordshire were all out for 183. Nick Harrison, Wiltshire’s other 17 year old seam bowler took 2 for 29, Dominic Webb 2 for 27, Michael Coles 3 for 14 and Pat Turk 2 for 83.

Wiltshire vs. Oxfordshire - 21/22/23rd June (Championship)
Wiltshire’s Minor Counties Championship match against Oxfordshire at Trowbridge on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday ended in a draw. Wiltshire won the toss and chose to bat scoring 389 for 9 off their 90 overs. Joe Breet (14) and Ben Walker (42) put on 45 for the first wicket and then Wes Durston joined Walker and they took the score to 105 when Walker was out. Greg Lamb then joined Durston and these two put on 199 for the 3rd wicket in 49 overs when Durston was out for 150. Lamb soon followed out for 94 and then the innings closed at 389 for 9 with James Hayward scoring 36 and Jon Chandler 20. For Oxford Keith Arnold took 4 for 72 and Daniel Rowe 3 for 73. During the innings Keith Arnold broke the record for the number of Championship wickets taken by an Oxfordshire bowler which previously stood at 670 wickets.
At close of play on the first day Oxfordshire had reached 49 for 3 wickets. The innings continued on the second day and closed at 250 for 9 off their 90 overs. Richard West scored 68 and Ian Hawtin 57. For Wiltshire James Hibberd took 2 for 18, Pat Turk 3 for 57 and Ross Crick 2 for 33. Wiltshire started their second innings with a lead of 139 and by close of play had extended it to 305 with the score standing at 166 for 4 with Jon Chandler scoring 66 and Wes Durston 49. On the third day Wiltshire batted for a further 19 overs declaring at 222 for 6 and setting Oxfordshire 362 to win in a minimum of 80 overs. Joe Breet scored 44 and Steve Bullen was 32 not out.
Oxfordshire started badly and at lunch were 27 for 3 and immediately after lunch were reduced to 27 for 4 but then the Oxfordshire batsmen started a determined rear guard action led by Richard Kaufman who scored a magnificent 130 not out off 271 balls and assisted by Jack Taylor (34) and Daniel Rowe (26). With the spinners doing most of the bowling Wiltshire bowled 97 overs and with 7 overs remaining last man James Phillips joined Kaufman and they held on for the draw. Wes Durston took 5 for 96 off 31 overs and Pat Turk 3 for 95 off 30 overs. Oxford finished at 260 for 9 wickets.
During the match Wes Durston was awarded his county cap.

Wiltshire’s next match is a 3 day Minor Counties Championship match against Cornwall at Camborne on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday July 5/6/7th.
Wiltshire vs. Oxfordshire - 14th June (MCCA Knock-Out Quarter Finals)
Wiltshire’s involvement in the MCCA Trophy Knock Out Cup came to an end at Corsham on Sunday when they lost their quarter final match to Oxfordshire by 7 wickets. Winning the toss, James Hibberd decided to bat, but a side whose batting in the 3 previous matches had averaged over 300 runs failed to fire on this occasion against fine bowling by the Oxfordshire opening bowlers and were dismissed for 175 in the 47th over. Both openers, Joe Breet and Tom Morton were out with the score at 4 and then Liam Dawson (25), Wes Durston (20) and Greg Lamb (14) were soon out and Wiltshire’s score stood at 64 for 5 off 16 overs. James Golding (36) and Michael Coles (45) put on 71 for the 6th wicket and Jon Chandler made 21 as Wiltshire were all out for 175. Stuart Hole took 3 for 43, Richard Gilbert 2 for 27 and Daniel Rowe 2 for 42.
In reply Oxfordshire had no trouble in scoring the runs to win which they did in the 46th over. Damian Shirazi (69), the former Wiltshire player, and Chris Sandbach (39) put on 94 for the 1st wicket and then Craig Haupt followed with 40 not out as Oxfordshire finished on 177 for 3 wickets to reach the semi final of the Trophy. For Wiltshire there was one wicket each for Liam Dawson, Michael Coles and Wes Durston.

Wiltshire vs. Wales - 7/8/9th June (Championship)
Wiltshire’s first Minor Counties Championship match against Wales at Usk on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday ended in a draw. Despite the torrential rain in Wales on the Saturday, play started on time and James Hibberd having won the toss asked Wales to bat. In the Wiltshire side was Andrew Caddick, who is recovering from injury and was seeking to prove his fitness for Somerset’s next match. After Caddick had taken two early wickets there was a partnership of 191 between Tom Maynard (105) and Hugh Waters (116) and play ended at tea on the first day after a heavy shower (with some 40 overs being lost).
Wales declared on the second day after 87 overs at 357 for 8 wickets with Adam Harrison scoring 56. For Wiltshire Andrew Caddick took 3 for 108 and Steve Warner 4 for 71. In reply Wiltshire scored 291 for 8 off their 90 overs. Ben Walker scored 56, Michael Coles 55, Andrew Caddick 39 not out, James Hibberd 34 and Tom Morton 32.
Wales started their second innings on the third day with a lead of 66 and declared on 235 for 6 to leave Wiltshire 302 to win in a minimum of 51 overs. For Wales Tom Maynard (103 not out) scored his second century of the match and for Wiltshire Andrew Caddick took 2 for 51 and James Hayward 2 for 27. To make a serious attempt on this total Wiltshire needed a good start but wickets fell at regular intervals and at 71 for 5 off 25 overs, Wiltshire set about playing for a draw which was achieved with James Hayward and Tom Morton playing out the next 13 overs and Wiltshire finishing at 101 for 5 wickets. Wales did not claim the last half hour and the match ended in a draw. Wales scored 11 points and Wiltshire 10 points.

Next Sunday (June 14th) Wiltshire play Oxfordshire in the quarter final of the MCCA Trophy at Corsham starting at 11.00am. From the team announced last week, Steve Warner injured his shoulder in the warm up before the third day’s play at Usk and could not bowl and will not be fit and Wiltshire hope that if not required by Somerset, Andrew Caddick may take his place.
Wiltshire vs. Cornwall - 31st May (MCCA Knock-Out)
Wiltshire continued their fine form in the MCCA Trophy with a 53 run victory over Cornwall at St Austell on Sunday and so finished the group in first place and have a home tie in the quarter final which will be played on Sunday June 14th at Corsham. Devon finished as runners-up in the group. Winning the toss for the third consecutive time in the competition, Wiltshire had no second thoughts about batting and set a very competitive score of 289 for 6 wickets in their 50 overs. It started with an opening stand of 53 in just 6 overs between Joe Breet (66) and Tom Morton (20). When Morton was out Ben Walker (25) and Breet put on 61 for the second wicket. Breet was third out with the score at 148 and then Greg Lamb (74 not out) was joined by James Hayward (47) and they put on 84 for the 4th wicket and the innings closed at 289 for 6.
Cornwall needed to win the match in 43 overs to overtake Devon into second place in the group, but after Alex Senneck’s opening burst (3 for 40) this seemed unlikely and at 145 for 7 the match was nearly over, but Cornwall refused to lie down and a spirited counter attack led by Gavin Edwards (50 not out) took the score to 236 all out in the 40th over. For Wiltshire Greg Lamb took 2 for 61, Ben Walker 2 for 62 and Michael Coles 2 for 28.

Wiltshire’s next match is their first 3 day Minor Counties Championship match against Wales at Usk on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday June 7/8/9th. James Hibberd returns to captain the side after his wedding and leg spinner Pat Turk comes into the side in place of the unavailable Alex Senneck and James Golding.
Wiltshire vs. Devon - 17th May (MCCA Knock-Out)
Wiltshire’s MCCA Trophy group match against Devon on Sunday at Trowbridge was abandoned without a ball being bowled because of heavy rain. There was also no play in the other group match between Berkshire and Cornwall. This means that the final match in the group between Cornwall and Wiltshire at St Austell on Sunday May 31st will decide the first three places in the group with the top two going into the quarter finals. At present Wiltshire have played 3 matches and have 5 points and a net run rate of 2.04, Devon have played all their 4 matches and also have 5 points and a net run rate of 0.9502 and Cornwall have played 3 matches and have 3 points and a net run rate of 1.05. The other teams in the group are Herefordshire 2 points and Berkshire 1 point both from 3 matches and they also play each other on May 31st. The group winners play at home on 14th June and the runners-up are away.
Wiltshire vs. Berkshire - 3rd May (MCCA Knock-Out)
Wiltshire continued their outstanding form especially with the bat when they equalled their record score of the previous Sunday in beating Berkshire (last year’s losing finalists in the competition) by 84 runs in their second group match in the MCCA Trophy. After this round of matches in the group Wiltshire are the only team to have won both of their matches.
James Hibberd on winning the toss had no hesitation in batting on the fast scoring Henley ground but Wiltshire soon lost both openers, Joe Breet and Tom Morton with the score at 10. There then followed two match winning partnerships, first between Wes Durston (133 off 121 balls) and Greg Lamb (78 off 84 balls) who put on 140 for the 3rd wicket and then Durston and James Hayward (74 off 59 balls) with 125 for the 4th wicket. Richard Bedbrook (20) helped Durston to put on 49 for the 5th wicket and the innings closed at 334 for 6 wickets. For Berkshire Tom Lambert took 2 for 65, Richard Logan 2 for 53 and Danny Briggs 2 for 65.
Berkshire needed to score at over 6 runs an over and started aggressively but Alex Senneck was soon into his stride and produced another fine bowling performance to take 4 for 35 off his 10 overs and with Greg Lamb taking 4 for 59, Berkshire were all out for 250 in the 47th over, with one wicket each for Richard Bedbrook and Steve Warner. For Berkshire Bjorn Mordt (50) and James Morris (50) scored half centuries.

Wiltshire’s next match is against Devon who won the Trophy in 2008 at Trowbridge on Sunday May 17th starting at 11.00am. The other four teams in the group are playing next weekend with Wiltshire having the day off.
Wiltshire vs. Herefordshire - 26th April (MCCA Knock-Out)
Wiltshire began their MCCA Trophy campaign with a huge 120 run win against Herefordshire at Devizes on Sunday. Winning the toss and deciding to bat, Wiltshire started steadily with an opening stand of 37 between Tom Morton and Luke Stoughton before Stoughton was out for 22 and then Joe Breet was run out for 7 leaving Wiltshire 65 for 2 wickets. Then followed a partnership of 162 between Tom Morton and Greg Lamb with Morton completing his maiden county century in 104 balls and when he was out for 126 in 124 balls, the home side were in a strong position at 227 with 8 overs remaining. Michael Coles came in and he and Lamb put on 107 in these 8 overs with Coles scoring 70 in only 26 balls, including 7 sixes and 2 fours and Lamb finishing with 93 not out in 109 balls. Wiltshire’s total was 334 for 3 wickets a score which beat their previous best in this competition by 34 runs. For Hereford, Stuart Wedge took 2 for 61.
With a target of over 6 runs per over, Herefordshire had a stiff task and lost wickets steadily with H Jones top scoring with 52 as they were all out in the 48th over for 214 leaving Wiltshire winners by 120 runs. Greg Lamb took 3 for 30 off his 10 overs and Richard Bedbrook took 2 for 29.

Wiltshire’s next match in this competition is away to Berkshire at Henley-on-Thames next Sunday, May 3rd and they have added Wes Durston who was unavailable against Hereford to the squad which played at Devizes.
Wiltshire vs. Berkshire - 19th April (Marlborough Cup)
Wiltshire regained the Marlborough Cup on Sunday at Thatcham when they beat Berkshire in an exciting match by 4 wickets with 1 ball remaining. James Hibberd won the toss and asked Berkshire to bat and after a steady start against accurate bowling when they were 60 for 4 wickets were indebted to a partnership between Steve Naylor (65) and Michael Bates (32) as they were all out in the 50th over for 197. For Wiltshire, Richard Bedbrook took 3 for 41, Ross Crick 3 for 58 and Alex Senneck bowled his 10 overs to take 2 for 14.
In reply Wiltshire started slowly losing their first 4 wickets for 57 and with 10 overs remaining were reduced to 123 for 6 when Alex Senneck joined Richard Bedbrook and these two with sensible aggressive batting took the score to 181 (with 17 needed to win) when the final over started. Alex then hit 2 sixes and a 4 in the first 4 balls and with a single off the 5th ball, Wiltshire gained an unlikely victory. Bedbrook ended 57 not out and Senneck 44 not out off 35 balls. For Berkshire Craig Crowe took 3 for 31.
Wiltshire vs. Dorset - 5th April (Friendly)
Wiltshire began their 2009 season with a friendly (12 a side- 11 to bat and field) 50 over match against Dorset at Dean Park, Bournemouth on Sunday which they lost by 55 runs. Winning the toss, James Hibberd asked Dorset to bat and after the loss of 2 early wickets, partnerships of 69 between Chris Jones (62) and Roger Sillence (28) and then 43 between Jones and Darren Cowley (a quick-fire 36) saw Dorset all out for 209 in the 50thover. For Wiltshire, newcomer, Steve Warner, a first year student at Solent University, who will play for South Wilts this season, took 4 for 40, James Hayward 3 for 37 and Wes Durston 2 for 56.
Wiltshire, chasing what was a competitive score in the circumstances, started badly and were at one time were 73 for 7 before a partnership of 56 between Jon Chandler (46) and James Hibberd (25) took the score to 129. Wiltshire were finally all out for 154 in 37.3 overs. For Dorset, Paul Warren took 3 for 18 and Tom Hicks 2 for 8.
