Salisbury Under 13 v West Wilts Under 13 - Sunday 11th July 2010 @ Winterslow CC

With late illness pull outs from both side, each team arrived at Winterslow Cricket Club with 10 a side. So the game began as it would normally. Salisbury winning the toss elected to bat on what was a good Winterslow wicket, this proved to be right as Salisbury raced to 70 for the loss of 0 wickets after the first 10 overs. Captain Edward Wordsworth and team mate Lewis Rutledge punished any loose deliveries to the boundary. At drinks in the 14th over the score had carried along to 90 for no loss, with both batsmen now going well. Only some good fielding by West Wilts stopped the Salisbury openers increasing the score even more. Both batsmen passed their fifties just after drinks and carried on scoring runs freely. With the field set back the batsmen took full advantage of this with a lot of very good running between the wickets, progressing the score to 195 from 25 overs. In the very next over a really good captains innings by Wordsworth was completed when he brought up his 100 with a well struck drive which found the boundary, with that Wordsworth retired, which allowed Tom Oxley to the crease. Wordsworth 100* included 11 fours in 110 minutes at the crease and came off only 78 balls. Oxley started off where Wordsworth finished supporting Lewis Rutledge to his maiden hundred. Rutledge inning was a very mature one and he brought his hundred up with a cut shot which found the boundary just like Wordsworth. Lewis Rutledge 101* included 9 fours in 144 minutes at the crease facing 108 balls.  With both Salisbury opening batsmen retired wicket keeper Ryan Cooper joined Oxley at the crease with the score at 230 for 0 after 33 overs. Eventually Salisbury lost their first wicket with the score on 254 when Cooper (3) was well caught at square leg by Goodison. The 2nd soon fell after when Oxley (31) was bowled by Rhys Evans with the score on 260. Matt Burton and Nick Easterbrook saw the innings through with some strong hitting, Burton (12*), and Easterbrook (6*). Salisbury innings was completed after the full allotted 40 overs, finishing on 277 for 2. Rhys Evans 8-0-49-1 was the only bowler who had any control.

West Wilts set a target of 278 to win from 40 overs, were on the back foot from the very first over with opening bowler Matt Burton struck early to clean bowl the first two batsmen, leaving the score at 20 for 2. Gilmore and Pridham were the batsmen to depart. Pressure from the other end by fellow opening bowler James Roberts brought Burton his 3rd wicket. Evans went to drive a good length ball and edged behind to the keeper, Cooper with a good clean catch left West Wilts rocking at 22 for 3 off 7 overs. James Roberts completing his opening spell with figures of 4-1-11-0 aided Burton superbly. With the introduction of the 1st change bowlers, Nathan Hill and Jack Castle the pressure continued to be applied and that brought a good piece of fielding by Burton who picked the ball up and calmly threw it back to Castle who took the bails off for the run out of Kingston (5). Dilena (2) was then bowled by Nathan Hill leaving the score at 40 for 5 from 12 overs. Drinks break brought a 24 run 6th wicket partnership between Felix Freeston and Caleb Goodison; this brought the score to 64 for 5. Oxley then caught Goodison (10) off the bowling off Jack Castle. Castle then struck again in the same over removing Freeston for 22. With the score now at 68 for 7 from 17 overs brought Robert Jones to the crease, who punished the bad balls to the boundary and raced to 15 with the score now at 86 for 7. Jones (23) then fell to Archie Hart who bowled him with a spinning delivery. Jones played positively for his 23 hitting 5 boundaries. With the score at 116 the 9th and final wicket fell ending the innings and a good win for Salisbury District U13s

North East Under 13 v Salisbury Under 13 - Sunday 27th June 2010

After winning the toss North East District didn’t hesitate to bat first and put a good score on the board on a decent Purton wicket. Opening the batting for North East District was Jack Twine and Lee Pearson. Lee Pearson didn’t last long when he was bowled with an in swinger from opening bowler Chris Wheeler for (1). Wheeler then picked up his 2nd wicket in his next over with Bramwell being clean bowled for (0). At 5 for 2 Salisbury had the early advantage, and then a quick piece of fielding from captain Edward Wordsworth catching the batsmen wondering out of his crease brought the Run out of Bipin Gattapur. North East then re-built the innings with a partnership from Jack Twine and Elijah Samuel, but when Twine was caught off the bowling of Nathan Hill for (16), and Samuel (16) soon followed being bowled by spinner Archie Hart, Salisbury had swung the game back into their control. Archie Hart bowled very well through the middle overs keeping the batsmen tied down from one end, finishing with figures of 7-0-29-1. Tidy spells from seam bowlers Nicholas Easterbrook, Nathan Hill, and Iestyn Williams kept the Salisbury side on top with some very straight bowling. The next two wickets fell to Matt Anderson-Emm who finished a good spell with figures of 3-1-7-2. A quick flurry of runs from hard hitting Harry Chevis (27) took the total past 100. When he was bowled going for one big shot too many being bowled by Matt Burton, who finished with good figures of   6-0-20-1, Salisbury then looked to wrap up the innings. Iestyn Williams came back for a second spell and picked up the last 2 wickets. North East were all out for 105 in 34 overs. Chris Wheeler with very good figures of 4-2-5-2, and Iestyn Williams 6-0-14-2.

Having been set 106 to win from 40 overs, Salisbury’s opening batsmen Lewis Rutledge and Edward Wordsworth went about the run chase very positively from the beginning, getting on top of any bad balls putting them to the boundary. Lewis Rutledge playing very well hit 5 boundaries in his (24). Rutledge was then bowled by Britjesh Gattapur with the score on 41. Gattapur finished his spell with figures of 5-1-16-1. Harry Chevis from the other end was abit more expensive with the Salisbury batsmen taking advantage of some loose bowling. Wicket Keeper Ryan Cooper joined the captain at the crease. The pair put on 25 run for the 2nd wicket when Wordsworth was bowled by Codling for (26) Tom Codling the  got the wicket of Cooper (13) caught behind by a sharp catch from wicket keeper Jack Twine. Codling then bowled Ben Draper (4) with a very good yorker, leaving the score at 72 for 4. Tom Codling finished with exceptional figures of 5-2-13-3. He claimed the wickets of 3 of the top 4 Salisbury batsmen. Connor Cleary 4-0-17-0 supported Codling well from the other end. With Salisbury looking comfortable, Nick Wiring then picked up the wicket of Iestyn Williams (5). With the score now at 80 for 5 the game was certainly in the balance. With 26 runs required and 5 wickets needed, it was left to Chris Wheeler (14*) and Matt Burton (16*) to hit the winning boundary for Salisbury district U13s. A very good performance from all of the Salisbury lads led to a comfortable win completing the run chase in 25 overs. Salisbury now look forward to their last game in 2 weeks time against West Wilts U13s at Winterslow Cricket Club

Kennet Under 13 v Salisbury Under 13 - Sunday 30th May 2010

The stand out innings was that of Edward Wordsworth from Salisbury who scored 92 from 82 balls and after being dropped from the county squad has produced a inning which says pick me again. He played shots to all parts of the pitch, with a couple of perfect off drives, was excellent to watch!!

Tom Oxley also scored 40  from 68 balls for Salisbury and put on 100 for the 2nd wicket with Edward. Tom has been doing the county Winter Programme and didn't make it into the final County squad for the summer, but with that inning also made a claim for a spot. Both batted very sensibly and produced a mtach winning partnership for Ryan Cooper and Matt Burton to come in at the end and finish the job off with a few big shots over the top.

The main stay for Kennet was the opening partnership of which numbers 1 and 2 scored 40 a peice which put Kennet into an early good position. Some good bowling kept them down to 189 which could of been more.

West Wilts Under 13 v Kennet Under 13 - Sunday 23rd May 2010

On a hot Sunday afternoon at Trowbridge CC. West Wilts won the toss and elected to bat. Openers S Johnson and J Ayrton got of to a good start with S Johnson especially punishing wayward bowling and scoring 32 out of 55 being the first wicket to fall in the 12th over. What was to follow was a remarkable collapse from West Wilts created from some great swing bowling by H Buckley 5 overs 1 maiden 6 runs and 3 wickets and S New 5 overs 17 runs and 4 wickets which included a hat trick. By the end of the 17th over West Wilts were 65 for 7, in 5 overs West Wilts scored 10 runs and lost 7 wickets. L Dilena was the only other batsman to score being last man out for 28, he came to the wicket in the 16th over and batted sensibly but kept losing partners, West Wilts were all out for 101 in the 27th over.

Kennett's innings started of slowly thanks to good bowling from L Mitchell 7 overs 2 maidens 12 runs but 0 wickets. Kennett lost their first wicket in the 9th over to S Johnson 6 overs 1 maiden 15 runs and 4 wickets, but a determined 28no from A Gratham batting at no 3 was enough to see Kennett home in the 29 over. At the 17th over Kennett were 65 for 5 and could have been in trouble if it wasn't for a steady partnership of 27 between A Gratham and B Bowman bowled J Pridham 13 in the 27th over. Kennett won the match by 4 wickets.
