Wiltshire CCC beat Devon to move in to semi final of MCCA Knockout trophy

Wiltshire continued their excellent form when they beat Devon in the quarter final of the MCCA Trophy Knock Out Cup at Corsham on Sunday by 5 wickets.  Winning the toss, Wiltshire put Devon into bat on a slightly damp pitch and Devon made an excellent start with Rob Woodman (52) and Rob Holman (39) putting on 108 for the first wicket in 15 overs helped by some wayward bowling as Wiltshire bowled 28 wides in the innings.  When they were out the spinners brought some control for Wiltshire with Mukesh Bhatt taking 2 for 17 in his 10 overs and Tom Bowler 1 for 37.  Devon’s innings closed on 258 for 9 wickets in their 50 overs with Matt Thompson scoring 53.  The other successful Wiltshire bowlers were Tahir Afridi 1 for 50, Owen Alsop 2 for 56 and Ashur Morrison 3 for 53.

Wiltshire also had a good start with Ed Kilbee (73) and Jayden Levitt (47) putting on 96 for the first wicket in 20 overs.  Levitt and Steve Bullen were both out in the same over before a partnership of 63 between Kilbee and Joe Breet (83) which included two short rain breaks took the score to 159 before Kilbee was out.  With Devon hampered by a wet ball, Henry Langford (31) and Breet put on 71 in 11 overs and Wiltshire finally passed the Devon score with 1 over to spare totalling 259 for 5 wickets.

Wiltshire now have an away semi-final against Staffordshire on July 1st.

Wiltshire’s next match is in the Minor Counties Championship when they play Berkshire at Corsham next Sunday/Monday/Tuesday June 24/25/26th with play starting at 11.00am each day.  They have named the same squad as took on Devon in the MCCA Trophy.
