Wiltshire CCC Squad released for final MCCA match
Wiltshire’s double header against Suffolk on Sunday and Norfolk on Monday in their MCCA Trophy Group saw both matches fall victim to the weather. The match v Suffolk on the Sunday had already been called off on the Thursday with the ground at Ipswich School completely unplayable but Wiltshire travelled to Manor Park, Norwich on the Monday with the ground having been declared fit.
On winning the toss, Wiltshire captained by Jayden Levitt in the absence of Joe Breet asked Norfolk to bat on what was likely to be a slow pitch and slow outfield. Norfolk batted steadily and had reached 178 for 5 wickets with 4 of their 50 overs remaining when a sudden collapse saw them all out for 181 with 8 balls remaining. For Wiltshire Tahir Afridi took 2 for 17, Owen Alsop 3 for 30 and Mukesh Bhatt 2 for 23. Norfolk main scorers were James Spelman 35, Sam Arthurton 30, Peter Lambert 34 and Luke Caswell 32. While the players were taking lunch, the rain started to fall and after an hour of heavy rain the umpires abandoned the match as a no result.
The position in the group after all 7 scheduled matches have failed to produce a result is that Norfolk have finished their matches and have 4 points, Suffolk and Wiltshire each have 1 match to play and have 3 points and Shropshire and Lincolnshire have 2 matches to play and have 2 points each.
Wiltshire’s final group match is next Sunday, May 13th against Lincolnshire at Corsham starting at 11.00am and a win in this match would give them a very good chance of going through to the quarter finals as either group winner or runner up while a defeat would see them eliminated. Wiltshire have named the same squad which were due to play in the matches against Suffolk and Norfolk.
