Loan a Player

For the 2016 season, the Wiltshire County Cricket League introduced a ruling around loan systems

Wiltshire Cricket understands that at any given time, there are likely to be two issues in clubs:

  • Clubs with teams in the Wiltshire County Cricket League struggling with numbers to fill teams
  • Wiltshire Youth League or other clubs who have surpluses of 15-18 year olds who aren’t getting selected for adult cricket

With the above in mind, it would be worth signposting clubs again to the following ruling that was brought in to the Wiltshire County Cricket League in 2016:

Player under the age of 18 on 1st September of the year preceding the current season may be freely loaned or transferred between clubs without the limitation imposed by other rules around membership

Some clubs will be aware of this ruling but unsure on the mechanics of how the system might work, with concerns around how to contact potential loan players. In response to this please note the following:

  • The ruling is quite short and simple, therefore there aren’t specific criteria around how the player gets to their loan club etc. This can be agreed between clubs
  • A reservation from young players might be around travelling to a different club on their own. Therefore, we would encourage opportunities for players to be loaned as pairs
  • The clubs need to enter in to this in the right spirit. A natural concern from clubs loaning out players will be around them losing those players. It is inevitable that this could happen but equally we would hope the two clubs concerned can agree on the spirit in which they enter in to the loan system
  • Clubs may be confused as to how they can advertise the need for loan players or to advertise that they have loan players available – on that subject Wiltshire Cricket is happy to act as a conduit if that helps - contact pete.sykes@wiltshirecricket.co.uk
