Lions Sports Travel - Sri Lanka Tour
Wiltshire Cricket has a formal partnership with overseas tour and travel company, Lions Sports Travel. This partnership involves Wiltshire Cricket, through Lions Sports Travel, touring Sri Lanka with a boys under 16 representative team on an annual basis. The first tour will take place in February 2017 and the current partnership will see a team travelling to Sri Lanka each year until at least February 2020.
As part of this tour, the players receive the opportunity to play Cricket against local sides in Sri Lanka. In addition, the players will stay in fantastic accommodation and will receive a number of excursions as part of the package. The aim of the tour is to provide both a cricketing and cultural education.
The partnership and opportunity to tour Sri Lanka is an exciting one for Wiltshire players. The reason for pitching the tour at the under 16 age group is so that players have the opportunity to strive for selection from an early age of being involved with representative cricket. We want the under 16 tour to be seen as an embedded part of the performance structure in Wiltshire.
Selection for the tours to Sri Lanka will be made annually in the Autumn for the tours taking place the year after next, thus giving players and parents approximately 18 months notice. The tours are to be fully funded by the players themselves which is why we provide such lead in time. However, Wiltshire Cricket will aim to assist with fundraising efforts where required.
Alongside the Cricket tour, Lions Sports Travel, can facilitate bookings for parents and other family to accompany the players during the tour, thus meaning that the tour could be viewed as an opportunity for a family holiday alongside the obvious Cricket purpose to the tour.
Players that are selected for the tour will be given detailed information upon their invitation. However, if any players or parents would like to ask any questions or require any futher information about the tours please contact Pete Sykes
