Wiltshire CCC lose against Cheshire in Unicorns County Championship
Wiltshire's poor run of results in the Unicorns County Championship, Western Division, continued when they lost their third match in a row against Cheshire at Devizes on Sunday/Monday/Tuesday. Wiltshire won the toss and asked Cheshire to bat. Only 55 overs play were possible on the Sunday because of rain and Cheshire had reached 133 for 4 wickets at the close. Calum Rowe was 83 not out. On the next morning Wiltshire quickly started taking wickets including Calum Rowe for 92, and Cheshire were all out for 197 in 75 overs. Jake Lintott took 3 for 45 and Joe King 3 for 49.
In reply Wiltshire started steadily with Billy Cookson scoring 24, Ashur Morrison 22 and Ed Young 26 but from 48 for 1 the last 9 wickets fell for 70 runs as they were all out for 118 in 49 overs. Leg spinner Jack Williams took 7 for 47. Cheshire started their 2nd innings and by close of play had reached 65 for 5 wickets. On the third day Wiltshire took 2 wickets in the first over and Cheshire were soon 84 for 8 wickets but then the last two wickets took the score to 159 all out leaving Wiltshire 239 to win. Tahir Afridi took 5 for 55. This was too much for Wiltshire's fragile batting and they were all out for 164 leaving Cheshire winners by 74 runs. Jake Goodwin scored 32 and Neil Clark 33 with Jack Williams taking 5 for 53.
