Wiltshire CCC lose in final Unicorns Knockout Trophy match
Wiltshire's hopes of reaching the knock out stages of the Unicorns Knock Out Trophy were all but extinguished when they lost to Hertfordshire at Hertford Cricket Club on Sunday by 8 wickets. Only an unlikely set of results in the final round of matches could see them qualify.
Wiltshire won the toss and chose to take first use of an excellent batting track. The innings was dominated by a superb century from Tom Morton (122) on a ground where he played as a schoolboy. No other player reached 50 and the other main contributions were from Jake Lintott (46) and Michael Coles (31). Wiltshire's total after the 50 overs was 292 for 8 wickets.
In reply the Hertfordshire openers attacked some wayward bowling from the Wiltshire bowlers and after 10 overs had reached 80 without loss. Steve Gale (143) and Jamie Southgate (89) put on 217 for the first wicket before Southgate was out and although Gale was also out they coasted to an 8 wicket win with 4 overs remaining. Their score was 293 for 2 wickets.
WADWORTH MAN OF MATCH TOM MORTON
Wiltshire's next match is their first match in the Western Division of the Unicorns County Championship against Oxfordshire at Great and Little Tew on Sun/Mon/Tues June 4/5/6th starting at 11.00am each day.
