2013 Super 4s Report

Performance Super 4s Competition

What is Super 4s?

In an attempt to increase the amount of matches that are available to women and girls to play within the county, Wiltshire Cricket have introduced a match play programme in line with the Super 4s competition currently used by the England Women’s sides.

The programme is available to any female player playing Under 15s cricket and older, to take part in a series of 40 over and T20 matches. Instead of having club or district based teams, the programme creates representative teams which aim to be equally balanced.  Teams have no specific names (reds, blues, greens etc.) and all matches are played on “neutral” venues.

England have been running  a Super 4’s programme for ten years that includes the senior squad as well as the leading Academy players.  Feel free to take a look at the following Wikipedia page which gives more information on the way the competition runs in the England set up: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Fours

Please note that in no way does the Super 4's programme look to replace anything that is currently happening at club level. We have a good structure in terms of competitive opportunities up until under 15 level but beyond that opportunities become more sparce and so this is where the Super 4s looks to address this issue.  Super 4s Squads are selected in as equal a basis as possible to make for more balanced games.  Teams will not be linked to any particular towns/venues and will not have geographical names.  Players will not necessarily be grouped to play with girls that they play club cricket with.

How to get involved with the Super 4s

Fixtures for the Super 4s can be found here. Fixtures for the coming season will tend to be organised in January of each year.

If you are interested in getting involved in Wiltshire Cricket's Super 4s please express your interest to Ali Goddard

As well as expressing an interest in being involved in the Super 4s, Wiltshire Cricket also needs to collect some information on you as a player. Therefore, every prospective Super 4s player will be required to complete a very basic data collection form. This will allow us to build squads and prepare for the Super 4s programme for the coming season.

Participation Super 4s Competition

In recognition that there is currently a lack of womens club cricket in the county, Wiltshire Cricket is going to mirror the Performance Super 4s competition by running a series of participation festivals whereby any women interested in playing some informal, fun and social cricket can attend a neutral venue to play in some competitive matches.

Details of these competitions will be organised by Ali Goddard. If you would be interested in attending a Super 4s participation festival please contact Ali at ali.goddard@wiltshirecricket.co.uk.

Please note that the main difference between the participation and performance Super 4s competitions is that the performance competition is played with a hard ball and is aimed at preparing players for representative cricket. In contrast, the participation competition is played with a soft ball and is aimed at being a fun introduction to competitive cricket.
