27 squares renovated as part of Wiltshire Cricket Groundsman's Association trailer scheme
Wiltshire Cricket Groundsman's Association continue to offer a great service to clubs through the hiring out of trailers, with operators, to support end of season renovations; this year supporting 24 clubs and 27 squares.
The trailer scheme, initially instigated in the early 2000s as part of Channel 4's support of English cricket has grown in Wiltshire to now include two trailers. The trailers consist of a scarifier, spiker, broadcast spreader, sarrel roller and loam spreader.
In terms of how the trailer scheme works in Wiltshire, the WCGA hire out two trailers during the end of season renovation period with loosely one trailer operating in the North and one trailer in the South. As part of the hiring agreement, the WCGA provides an operator to conduct the end of season renovations on behalf of the hiring club. During 2018 this service was conducted by John Wilkins in the North and Richard Mosdell in the South.
As well as receiving the end of season scarification, a booking of one of the WCGA trailer will also involve a follow up spiking from the given operator. What does all of this cost?... In 2018, the WCGA charged £250 for a club to receive the trailer with operator and spiking for a 10 pitch square. This very competitive service saw the two trailers support 24 clubs and 27 squares in completing this essential piece of work.
