Clubhouse / Pavilion Re-opening Guidance

In the early parts of the week some clubs contacted us with concerns over the status of Cricket clubs being able to open their clubhouses/pavilions in line with other Public Houses and Restaurants that are opening as part of the Government’s re-opening of the hospitality sector on 4th July.

Firstly, it is important to note that Sports Clubhouses and Pavilions are operating under a different strand of the Government’s Covid-19 guidelines to the wider hospitality sector. However, the good news is that we can inform you that Clubhouses and Pavilions have been given the green light to re-open from the 4th July.

This is a perfect example of how quickly things are changing and can change in terms of Cricket and the wider sport sector. As alluded to above, we started this week in a position where government legislation stated that clubhouse bars could not re-open on 4th July, but thanks to the intervention of the ECB public policy team and support from the ECB facilities team, the government have updated their guidance to support the opening of clubhouse bars. A successful outcome for all of our clubs who choose to make this next step and a victory for our club network.

What you now need to do if you want to re-open is ensure that you follow the guidance provided by the government. We also attach a helpful document from the gov.uk website so that you do not have to download it yourself.

We very much hope that in the near future we will be writing to all clubs with further positive news about the return of recreational cricket matchplay. There is clearly continued frustration that we are not able to move to step 4 of ECB’s roadmap but we can assure everyone that the ECB is doing everything it can to get the Government’s position moved,

With continued best wishes
