Coach Education and Development opportunities for Women and Girls in Wiltshire!

Looking ahead to the summer, Wiltshire Cricket has plenty of exciting opportunities for Women and Girls as part of the newly launched “Women’s Volunteer Network”. As part of this, we are delighted to share some of the upcoming “Coach Development” opportunities that are available for club members and players this summer. Many of these opportunities come with bursaries or rewards, so it’s definitely worth having a look through these and sharing with other club/team members! Coaches and volunteers play such an important role within Women and Girls cricket and as the popularity continues to grow, so too do the opportunities for coaching roles.

Young Storm Champions Course

Who: Girls, aged 14-17, any experience
When: Tuesday 28th May
Where: TBC (Central Wiltshire near Devizes/Avebury Area)
Booking Link: https://booking.ecb.co.uk/d/dqqw6p.
Cost: FREE!!! (was previously £30, but we’ve secured some funding to provide this for free!)

The young storm champions course is a one-day course, designed to provide an introduction to coaching, scoring and umpiring cricket. The course is delivered by Wiltshire Cricket in association with Western Storm and is the perfect starting point for girls who would like to learn more about basic coaching techniques and officiating. At the end of the course, we hope that each of the girls will have gained some additional confidence to support their clubs with fixtures and perhaps girls coaching sessions, helping to inspire the next generation and become an important role model at their club. In addition to the one-day course, every attendee will be provided with some Western Storm freebies and merchandise! Additionally, the girls have the option to complete a ‘volunteer log’ at their clubs and record their volunteering hours in exchange for more Western Storm rewards. The course is a great starting point for young, aspiring players, coaches and officials and we look forward to welcoming girls of all experiences onto the course.

Club-Specific Support Coach Course (for any club member – everyone welcome (16+))

To be delivered at your club on a summer evening

This course has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills, and confidence to support qualified coaches and enhance player experience. Support coaches are not qualified to independently lead a session, however this is a fantastic introduction to coaching. This course is perfect for young volunteers (16+), parent-helpers or those new to coaching. In 2023, some clubs asked their Women’s Team to attend a course so they could each gain a greater understanding of some skills, but also be more confident to support one another at their training sessions! This can be a brilliant way to enhance the quality of your Women’s training sessions….and it’s free for female attendees.

Wiltshire Cricket will be providing a full bursary for all female candidates on this course.

Further Information:

  • A minimum of 6 candidates are required for the course to be delivered at your club, of which at least 3 should be female candidates.
  • Please may clubs provide 3 preferred dates for delivery (to then allow us to gauge Coach Developer availability) – Only 1 of these dates will be required for the 3-hour Support Coach Course
  • Wiltshire Cricket are pleased to be able to provide all female candidates with a full bursary to the course.

After having some fantastic uptake for this offer in 2023, Wiltshire Cricket are delighted to be launching this offer again. In 2023, 48% of our attendees on all of our coaching courses were female (the highest of any county in the country!) – we’d love to continue leading the way for these opportunities as part of our Women’s Volunteer Network, so please do get involved – we’d be delighted to visit your club in the summer to deliver a support coach course!

Following completion of the above form, Wiltshire Cricket will contact you to confirm the date of the course and provide the course booking link for candidates.
