Potterne CC retain Wiltshire Wallop crown!

Sunday 8th September saw the completion of the 2019 Wiltshire Wallop competition; wonderfully hosted and supported as always by Potterne CC. The inital finals day in August had only seen the completion of one semi-final with Potterne beating Burbage and therefore Sunday's revised finals day started with a semi-final between Shrewton and Goatacre for a place in the final against the hosts.

Batting first in the semi-final, Goatacre posted a very competitive 190 all out thanks in large to 54 from 28 balls from Joe King. For Shrewton, Will Harries took an impressive 3-14 from his 4 overs. In reply, Shrewton reached their target with relative ease, passing their target with 8 balls to spare and with 4 wickets in hand. Sam Gillott was the star for Shrewton, scoring 50 from 38 balls.

So, the final was set for a 2.30pm start and it was Potterne to bat first. The first half of the innings saw some pretty destructive batting, led by Graham Wiseman who scored 91 from 35 balls, including 11 sixes and 31 off one over. At the point that Wiseman was in it looked like Potterne could post upwards of 250 from their 20 overs. However, credit to Shrewton's bowlers who managed to take regular wickets and eventually restricted Potterne to 214 all out. Sam Gillott took 3-49 for the visitors.

Unfortunately, Shrewton's reply never really saw them challenge Potterne's total. Regular wickets meant that the target was never really in sight and eventually Shrewton were dismissed for 148. Dan Bingley did manage 50 and for Potterne Josh Hodder took 4-23

Wiltshire Cricket would like to thank Potterne CC hor their hosting of finals day, WACO for the provision of umpires on both finals days, the scorers from all teams and finals day, and finally all teams that supported and participated in the 2019 Wiltshire Wallop competition. Potterne take this year's crown but the Wallop will be back in 2020 with an opportunity for more clubs to hallenge for the honour of being Wiltshire's premier 20 over side!
