Chippenham CC win their first ever Wiltshire Wallop crown

Corsham CC played host to the 2022 Wiltshire Wallop finals, with Chippenham, Corsham, Goatacre and Swindon competing for the T20 crown. Following completion of the group stages of this year's competition, which consisted of 15 teams, and then a quarter-final knockout stage, it was over to finals day!

Semi-final 1 kicked off at 10.30 in the morning and was competed between Corsham and Swindon. Batting first, Swindon were bowled out impressively by Corsham for 104. Starts were made for Swindon by Jonathan Sore (20), Christy Millar (23) and Connor Foley (23) whilst for Corsham both Tom Foley and Callum Sandell took three wickets each.

In reply, Corsham attacked their target reaching it with 7 overs to spare as Michael Reynolds top scored on 39. However, Swindon did manage to take five wickets with Chris Allen picking up two of them.

Semi-final 2 followed and was competed between Chippenham and Goatacre. Batting first, Goatacre got off to an explosive start as Jack Haines hit 46 from just 15 balls. However, Chippenham managed to take regular wickets to restrict Goatacre to 133 all out from their 20 overs with Jake Rowe taking 3-25.

The chase was a tense one with Goatacre also taking regular wickets, with David Miles the highlight with 4-26. For Chippenham, Josh Smith stayed steady as he steered Chippenham towards their target with 42 not out. In the end, Chippenham came down to needing 7 off their final over. They only managed to score 6 but came through as winners in the tie by virtue of losing less wickets (7).

So, to the final between hosts Corsham and Chippenham. Corsham batted first and in similr circumstances to the second semi-final were bowled out in the final over of their innings, this time for 122. There were good contributions of 32 from Jack Humphreys and 31 from Ahmed Jamal. For Chippenham, Adam Sullivan starred with 4-26.

In reply, it was Chippenham's openers who played the key roles. Charlie Slade struck 41 and Azeem Ghumman 37. Ably supported with 22 from Josh Smith, Chippenham reached their target for the loss of four wickets with 17 balls to spare. Congratulations to Chippenham CC on their first ever Wallop crown.
