The ECB initiative helping local clubs support and deliver disability provision.

Growing disability cricket has been a real focus since our disability venture began in 2020. As an organisation, we started delivery of our Super 1s Programme in mid-2021 and have seen great progression within the programme. Wiltshire Cricket starts 2023 with 4 established Super 1s Hubs with over 35 participants.

As Wiltshire Cricket looks to make disability cricket more sustainable, far-reaching, and engrained within the county of Wiltshire. An essential and fundamental part of this development will be our partnership with forward-thinking, committed local clubs who are motivated to drive disability cricket forward. Wiltshire Cricket and the ECB are inviting local clubs to support disability cricket through their latest initiative, Disability Cricket Champions Clubs.

Disability Cricket Champions Clubs Initiative:

The ECB have introduced an initiative for local clubs to provide support through equipment and grant funding to progress disability provision. The Disability Cricket Champion Club Programme will support cricket clubs through guidance, resource and equipment, enabling them to welcome individuals with additional needs and varying abilities to support them to play, follow, officiate and volunteer.

What is DCCC: https://www.ecb.co.uk/play/open-age/disability-cricket/championclubs

  • £500 grant funding to support disability provision
  • FREE adaptive equipment kit bag
  • ECB resources to support with attracting participants and running engaging and accessible sessions
  • The ECB and your local County Cricket Board will provide ongoing assistance supporting clubs

Having now run for two years, the ECB’s Disability Cricket Champion Club’s programme has supported more than 110 cricket clubs across England and Wales to open their doors to more than 1,000 disabled cricketers.

For the first time, we will be offering continued support to existing Champion Clubs in 2023. All new and returning clubs will be able to access all elements of support, except for a new bag of equipment (equipment for new clubs only), and they will qualify for another £500 at the end of the year, so long as they have undertaken regular delivery and completed the short evaluation process.

Growing Disability Cricket:

Continuing our pursuit to grow disability cricket provision we are looking to work with local clubs to help promote, facilitate, and develop disability cricket through the ECB Disability Cricket Champions Club initiative.

Wiltshire Cricket aims to work alongside local Disability Cricket Champions Clubs (DCCC) to develop disability cricket in aspects, including:

  • Providing venues for Super 1s Hubs
  • Providing volunteer coaches for Super 1s Hubs
  • Promoting disability cricket provision:
    • Distributing/displaying flyers within your club
    • Sharing disability opportunities on social media
  • Developing a disability sector and delivering disability provision

If you would like any further information regarding the DCCC initiative and how to get involved, Wiltshire Cricket would love to hear from you.
