Wessex Warriors progress through to National Rounds of Vitality U13 T20 Club Competition

The county final of this year's Vitality Under 13 Club T20 competition was hosted at the beautiful Marlborough College and was contested by Potterne, and last year’s winners Wessex Warriors.  The game went down the penultimate over in a close final that eventually saw Wessex Warriors defeat Potterne by 7 wickets.

Batting first, Potterne made a solid start as both openers (Harry Rudler and Oscar Fox) batted well and reached 19 and 27 respectively. They were also well supported by contributions from their middle order, Freddie Pickford and Sophie Gaiger who reached scored of 14 and 13. In the end, Potterne posted a competitive total of 105-7 from their 20 overs. For Wessex Warriors, the wickets were shared around, with two coming from the bowling of Thomas King in his spell of 4 overs, 2 for 14.

In reply, Wessex Warriors made steady progress in a run chase that always left the game feeling in the balance. For the Warriors, the standout performance was from Seb Selby who was retired on 30, with contributions from Henry Knowlson (14) and Thomas King (24).  The game looked set to be won comfortably by Wessex, but two key wickets from Sophie Gaiger in the 17th over threatened to change the game. In the end, the game went down to the penultimate over and thanks to some boundaries from the Wessex middle order, they won to scenes of jubilation. Special mention from the innings goes to Sophie Gaiger who finished with outstanding figures of 4 overs, 2 maidens, 2 wickets for 3 runs.

A game played in fantastic spirit, Wiltshire Cricket would like to say a huge thank you to local sponsors of the competition, Marlborough College for their support and also for being such fantastic hosts of the final.   Also, thank you to the umpires, scorers, coaches and players for a fantastic evening of cricket.

Many congratulations to Wessex Warriors who now go on to represent Wiltshire in the regional stages of the competition on Sunday 2nd July.
