Additional **NEW** ECB Umpire Course planned for the summer!
Earlier this year, the ECB successfully launched the new ECB Umpire Course (which you can read about below) and in Wiltshire we were pleased to be able to host two of the inaugural courses with 17 candidates successfully completing the new qualification.
In an attempt to continue the recruitment drive of new umpires and also in an attempt to ensure that education opportunities are available for 12 months of the year, I am really pleased to inform all clubs that we will be running a Summer Umpire course this year too, details of which are as follows:
Date: Sunday 30th June
Time: 9.30am – 4.00pm
Venue: Swindon CC

About the NEW ECB Umpire Course:
This course is designed to give new umpires the key skills, knowledge and confidence to stand as an umpire in cricket. No prior experience of umpiring in cricket is required before attending the course.
Whether you plan to support Junior Softball cricket through to adult cricket, this course will cover the following topics:
- Understanding the role of the umpire
- Gain a basic understanding of umpiring the game
- Answering appeals and the common methods of dismissal
- How to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the game
- Judging whether or not it is safe to play
Learners will be asked to complete some e-learning prior to attending the course, which will take no more than 90 minutes to complete in total. Pre-learning can be completed via multiple visits or in one go.
Pre-requisites:
- Learners must be 14 years of age at the time of the course.
- Cost £70.00
Post course, learners will have the confidence and competence to go and umpire at appropriate levels within recreational cricket.
Finally, for clubs that participate in WEPL or in the Wiltshire County Cricket League, you may be able to apply for bursaries towards the courses upon completion. Please use the following contacts to find out more about what might be available:
