End of Season Renovations
Hiring the Tractor Mounted End of Season Renovations (EOSR) Equipment
The WCGA, following extensive costing analysis, has decided that the revised cost to clubs wishing to hire the renovation service, will now be £600 per square up for to 10 tracks, then £60 per track pro-rata for squares larger than 10 tracks. If the club has two squares on site / i.e. adjacent fields, the charge levied will be a further £600 for the second square. This scarifier also has a collection box , clubs will need to have an area designated for the arisings to be deposited off the edge of the boundary or possibly a low trailer etc. the scarifying will consist of 3 x passes across the whole square. The WCGA will then spread your seed and your fertilizer across the square and will then with a tractor mounted spreader, top dress your square with your loam and drag mat the square to a level profile working the seed etc into all the grooves. The WCGA would require one or two club members to be present on the day, to help load the loam into the spreader.
The Spiker was previously included in the renovation charges, but unfortunately, we have had to fall in line with all other counties and charge this out as a separate element, so therefore the cost of this work will not be included in your EOSR’s costs. Clubs can book this equipment together with our operator John Wilkins separately to the EOSR’s and the cost for this will be £80 per square.(Excl.Fuel)
Please note that the costs as set out above (Renovations) are inclusive of transport costs and fuel. The clubs hiring the renovation equipment on this basis MUST have all of the materials, loams, seed and fertilizers on site for use on the day of the booking and must have the square suitably mown off, watered at least the day before if conditions are really dry and be ready for scarifying upon arrival as our operators will be working to a tight timeframe.
The WCGA has made arrangements for two trained operatives to use and deploy the machinery throughout the county.

Renovations to Cricket Squares (changes applied for 2026 onwards)
As of the end of the 2025 renovations, the WCGA made a decision that its current machinery (two trailers of equipment) had come to the end of their working lifespan and it was no longer cost effective to carry on trying to deliver an efficient service with this equipment to all affiliated clubs. This was also coupled with the fact that our two operators had given notice of their intentions to stand down from their roles in delivering this service on behalf the WCGA to clubs. This left the committee with the decision, (a) do we cease delivering this service to clubs, or (b) do we look for an alternative way of continuing to provide this service, the WCGA chose to seek an alternative way of undertaking the EOSR’s.
Following extensive research and our belief that we could improve the standard of what we currently delivered to clubs, plus our aim to keep the costs to clubs as low as possible, the WCGA opted to look at tractor mounted scarifiers and following advice from Somerset head groundsman Nick Pepper, we looked at the GKB range of equipment. The model chosen was the GKB VS 120 scarifier tractor mounted unit. To purchase this equipment the WCGA has had to take out a loan for three years from the ECB, starting 2026. The WCGA has fortunately managed to source someone who has other equipment suitable for carrying out renovations, willing to undertake this role for at least the next 3 years and he will be referred to as the WCGA’s contractor and will be paid for his services by the WCGA.
