Representative Cricket Season is upon us!

With the winter coaching programmes for our county and district boys and girls programmes having recently concluded, we are now looking forward to an action packed summer of representative cricket which will see the following take place....

District Boys Festivals

The district festivals are the annual curtain raiser for representative cricket with our district teams coming together for their first competitive opportunities of the summer. This season will be our first with four as opposed to five districts; North West, North East, Mid Wilts and South.

These four districts will compete in the following festivals:

  • Under 10s - Monday 7th May, Calne CC
  • Under 11s - Monday 7th May, Biddestone CC
  • Under 13s - Monday 7th May, Royal Wootton Bassett CC
  • Under 13s - Monday 28th May, Goatacre CC

The festivals will comprise of 12 over per side matches in which all teams play each other. The purpose of the festivals is to provide a fun and action packed launch for the coming season

District League Fixtures

Following the festivals it is straight in to round robin league action for our under 10 and 11 boys teams who will play each other twice in a series of morning, 20 over matches. In total, there will be 6 matches per team so a great opportunity for our young district players to make their mark in representative cricket.

District Boys Under 13 Cricket

The under 13 district strucutre adopts a new approach for 2018. Following the second festival for this age group, the four under 13 teams will be re-shaped to make two teams as follows:

  • North West and North East - will form the NORTH AREA team
  • Mid Wilts and South - will form the SOUTH AREA team

The reason for this move is to provide a higher level of competition to feed in to the county under 12 and 13 strucutre that sits just above county cricket. The North and South teams will comrpise of the very top performing district players and will play in three 35 over matches against each other

North and South Under 15 "Ashes" Style Competition

New and exciting for this season is the boys under 15 district structure. Just two teams; a North and South team have been created to provide a really competitive format to challenge the county under 14 and 15 squads.

An Ashes style format across five matches will see points awarded as follows:

  • T20 matches – 2 points for a win, 0 points for a loss
  • 40 over matches – 4 points for an outright win, 0 points for outright loss (outright win achieved by team either batting second and chasing target OR batting first and then bowling out opposition)
  • 40 over matches – 3 points for a winning draw (i.e. bat first, score more runs but don’t bowl opposition out in second innings)
  • 40 over matches – 2 points for a losing draw (i.e. bat second, don’t chase target but avoid being bowled out)

The matches will be played with coloured clothing and pink balls. This format has been established to try and create real interest across this important age group.

Girls District Cricket

District Cricket is the focus of our early season girls performance cricket as at under 11s and 13s age groups, North and South teams will compete in a series of matches against each other. For the under 11s this will be some of their first matchplay opportunities. At under 13s, the girls will be playing to the new ECB recommended formats for the first time with the main highlight being 17 yard pitches.

County Age Group Cricket

Finally, our county teams are looking forward to another packed season of fixtures. In 2018, we will be proudly running teams at the following age groups:

  • Girls under 13s - competing in friendlies
  • Girls under 15s/17s/women - competing in ECB competitions
  • Boys under 10s/11s/12s/13s - competing in friendlies
