South Wilts Lions, U19 T20 winners 2018

Potterne CC was the venue for the finals day of the 2018 Wiltshire 'Vitality U19 Club T20' competition with the competing teams being Biddestone, Potterne and South Wilts.

Game 1 - Potterne v Biddestone

Scorecard

Batting first in game 1 of the day were the hosts, Potterne CC who thanks to Jacob Stoner with 37 and Luke Jenks with 33 posted a score of 114 all out from 19.4 overs. For Biddestone there were five wickets for David Comport who normally keeps wicket as he returned figures of 5-6 from 3 overs!

In reply, Biddestone struggled and were hampered by only having 9 available batters. There were contributions of 31 from Charlie Quarrell and 26 from Thom Walker but this could only help Biddestone to a score of 106 to hand Potterne an 8 run win to give them an early lead in the competition

Game 2 - South Wilts v Biddestone

Scorecard

Keen to put things right after their earlier loss Biddestone went out to bat and thanks to contributions throughout the order managed to post a competitive 130 with Akito Jacques and Jack Smith both scoring 24. For South Wilts there were two wickets apiece for Jayden Atkinson and Akram Ghauri.

Needing to defend the total to stay in the competition Biddestone bowled well to dismiss South Wilts for 114 with Jacques, Smith and David Comport all taking two wickets. For South Wilts James Wade top scored with 22.

Game 3 - Potterne v South Wilts

Scorecard

So, going in to the last match, all results from the day were possible. A win for Potterne would guarantee them the crown whereas a big enough win for South Wilts could give them the trophy on run rate. For Biddestone, they needed a South Wilts win but not by too big a margin!

As it was, South Wilts dominated the match and did enough to take the 2018 crown. This was thanks in the main to their huge score of 185-5 from their 20 overs which contained fifties for Ed Wade and George Edwards. For Potterne, Jack Trew took 3-18.

Potterne's chase unfortunately never got going with just Tom Spencer reaching double figures with 20. For South Wilts James Wade took 4-7 as Potterne were bowled out for 55

Wiltshire Cricket would like to congratulate South Wilts on their vicrtory but also to all teams on making the day such a success.

We would also like to pass our thanks to Potterne CC for hosting such an enjoyable and successful day, the umpires for officiating and to Sam Dent for his time and effort in organising the day on behalf of Wiltshire Cricket.
