Vitality Under 19 T20 Competition in Wiltshire - Expressions of Interest now open!

Despite some continuing uncertainty over what the 2021 Cricket season will bring, Wiltshire Cricket believes it is important to continue planning ahead with some degree of normality. As a Sport we demonstrated in 2020 that we can adapt to different conditions and restrictions which makes it right that we do plan for a full suite of competitions to take place next summer.

With that in mind we are delighted to launch the 2021 Vitality Under 19 T20 Competition!

Competition Background

The Vitality U19 Club T20 competition was developed through player insight to combat a national trend within clubs – young players dropping out of the game after U15s.

The insight gathered from 1000 young players (current and lapsed) pointed to these key factors:

  • After U15s age group cricket, there is no specific offer for young players
  • 16–19 year olds want to play with their friends
  • Young players are keen to develop their own skills by taking more responsibility (volunteering)
  • They want short formats, with coloured kit and lively atmosphere where their friends can watch

The 2021 Competition in Wiltshire

Firstly, we would like to thank all of the U19 T20 clubs that were involved in the shortened 2020 competition. It was fantastic to see the support from clubs for the young players across the county, and whilst the competition was slightly more challenging than previous seasons, It was really pleasing to see so many games played. We are confident that the 2021 season will see many more U19 T20 fixtures played and hopefully, we will be able to return to the countywide Finals Day event!

Secondly, with the upcoming 2021 season in mind, Wiltshire Cricket are now taking expressions of interest for the Vitality U19 Club T20 Competition in 2021.

Once again, we are delighted to say that this competition will be FREE to enter, to encourage as much participation as possible. It would be brilliant to see existing clubs taking part as well as some new teams, so please do feel free to encourage nearby teams, colleagues and friends to get involved.

Finally, the expression of interest stage is always a great time to receive feedback from clubs that have participated in the competition before. So, please do feel free to send through any thoughts and feedback about the competition. Feedback could be related to playing formats, time of fixtures, competition schedules, locality of fixtures etc.

To express an interest in the Vitality U19 Club T20 Competition, please email Sam Dent ([email protected]) by Wednesday 9th December!
