Introducing the new ECB Support Coach course

We are delighted to announce the launch of the new ECB Support Coach course. As part of ECB’s staggered restructure of the Coach Development pathway, which began with the launch of the new ECB Foundation 1, the ECB Support Coach course will replace the previous Coach Support Worker course as the entry level course for assistant coaches.

ECB Support Coach courses this summer – Please note that following the launch of this new course, Wiltshire Cricket is currently finalising the details of a programme of courses for this summer. We hope to be able to confirm the details of these and open them up for bookings in the coming days.

Purpose:

The ECB Support Coach programme is the assistant coach provision for cricket coaching in England and Wales. This programme is part of a strategic response to needing more support (assistant) coaches on the ground able to inspire and develop players. The programme makes becoming a coach much more accessible in terms of time commitment and cost.

ECB Support Coach replaces the previousCoach Support Worker provision.

Programme descriptor:

This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to support qualified coaches and enhance player experience. An ECB Support Coach is not qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and therefore must be supervised by a qualified cricket coach.

Programme structure:

The programme consists of three modules in total. Two e-learning modules are integrated with one face-to-face module.

  • Module 1 – Introducing ECB Support Coach - e-learning module
  • Module 2 – Supporting coaching - face to face module
  • Module 3 – Being an ECB Support Coach - e-learning module

Face-to-face module:

There is a single face-to-face module that runs for three hours:

  1. Role of an ECB Support Coach
  2. What does support coaching look like?
  3. Coaching – your turn
  4. Player welfare and safeguarding
  5. Coaching fielding, bowling and batting – your turn ECB Coach Developer guidance notes will provide further detail behind the outcomes and activities in each module.

Safeguarding Young Cricketers:

Safeguarding Young Cricketers is issued separately by ECB e-learning is complimented by tasks completed during the face-to-face module.

Assessment:

Learners are assessed by an online multiple choice question paper found in module 3.
