ECB Support Coach
Purpose
The ECB Support Coach programme is the assistant coach provision for cricket coaching in England and Wales. This programme is part of a strategic response to needing more support (assistant) coaches on the ground able to inspire and develop players. The programme makes becoming a coach much more accessible in terms of time commitment and cost.
ECB Support Coach replaces the previous Coach Support Worker provision.
About the Programme
This programme has been designed to give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to support qualified coaches and enhance player experience. An ECB Support Coach is not qualified to lead coaching sessions independently and therefore must be supervised by a qualified cricket coach.

The programme consists of three modules in total. Two e-learning modules are integrated with one face-to-face module.

Face-to-face module
There is a single face-to-face module that runs for three hours:
- Role of an ECB Support Coach
- What does support coaching look like?
- Coaching – your turn
- Player welfare and safeguarding
- Coaching fielding, bowling and batting – your turn ECB Coach Developer guidance notes will provide further detail behind the outcomes and activities in each module.
Safeguarding for Specialist Roles
A valid safeguarding qualification is a course pre-requisite, requiring completion of the Safeguarding for Specialist Roles online course. Access to this is provided by the ECB E-learning Team as part of the course content.
Assessment
Learners are assessed by an online multiple choice question paper found in module 3.

What does the programme equip an individual to do?
ECB Support Coach will become the assistant coach provision. The programme descriptor states:

Learners will be charged £40.00 at the point of registration.
What is the minimum age for entry?
Candidates must be 16 years or over.
Is first aid a certification pre-requisite?
No. However, deploying bodies will need to ensure that assistant coaches have the appropriate training.
Is safeguarding a certification pre-requisite?
Yes. The face-to-face element is covered in during module two and accompanied by the online SYC module and multiple choice questionnaire.
Is a DBS a pre-requisite?
Yes, an ECB DBS is required for certification.
What score is required is for competence at assessment?
90%
