Congratulations to Lynda Ormandy on winning Wiltshire Cricket Grassroots Cricket Award!

During the course of the Wiltshire Cricket Women's and Girls Awards evening, Wiltshire Cricket was delighted to present Corsham CC's Lynda Ormandy with the first of our 2021 Grassroots Cricket Awards.

The Grassroots Cricket Awards are a national awards scheme that recognise those invaluable volunteers that make our game happen. With eight categories, the Grassroots Cricket Awards recognise those volunteers that have helped their local clubs and communities to play more cricket and get more people involved in the game than ever before.

Earlier this year, Wiltshire Cricket Limited collected nominations from across the club network in Wiltshire, with a panel from the Wiltshire Cricket Board of Directors deciding upon the eventual winners.

During last week's awards evening we were delighted to announce the winner in our first category; Growing the Game. This went to Corsham CC's Lynda Ormandy. Here is some of the content from Lynda's nominations, demonstrating clearly why she was so deserving of this recognition ...

Since joining Corsham Cricket in 2016, Lynda Ormandy has been a whirlwind of activity, volunteering to be the Women’s Director of Cricket, u11 and u13 co-manager, Friday fun cricket coordinator and inspirational fund-raiser.

She has a passion for cricket at a real zest for Corsham Cricket. She has grown the Women’s section by 100% in the last 18 months; watching mums and sisters playing soft and hard ball has been tremendous. Running a fantastic festival with 6 women’s teams earlier this year was simply inspiring. Selling second-hand cricket gear alongside cakes and Pimms was her great idea to help funds for the Pavilion refurbishment. Every Friday evening, she is playing, captaining and organising the Corsham Kites team in the fun adult T10 league.

To cap it all, Lynda and her husband co-manage the very successful u13 academy team, organising scorers, umpires and matches galore. She is also a highly committed Committee member who displays great initiative and support to fellow members.

To sum up Lynda’s tremendous contribution to cricket, we jokingly suggested converting a room in the Pavilion as a bed-sit as she attends the Club in some capacity 7 days a week! A complete force for cricket good and a super inspirational figure at Corsham Cricket Club.
