Wiltshire Cricket Limited Safeguarding Update

We are pleased to share a number of important Safeguarding updates with clubs, leagues, associations and volunteers:

Appointment of County Safeguarding Officer

We are delighted to confirm that our existing volunteer County Safeguarding Officer, Iestyn Lewis, has been appointed to a fully contracted, one day a week paid role with Wiltshire Cricket.

As the governing body for Cricket in Wiltshire, safeguarding is a fundamental and integral aspect of our role, and that of our affiliated clubs. Collectively we all have a part to play to ensure the game is a safe, positive and enjoyable experience for the children and young adults who participate in cricket. To date Iestyn’s role has primarily been a reactive one; responding to safeguarding incidents or cases as they have emerged. Whilst the reactive work will remain part of Iestyn’s responsibilities, the move to a paid position will create capacity for Iestyn to carry out more pro-active safeguarding work with the club network across Wiltshire.

Please note that if any clubs wish to speak to Iestyn about any concerns or simply wish to seek guidance or support relating to any safeguarding responsibilities, he can be reached at; [email protected] or on 07774 004662.

New Safeguarding Section of Website

We are pleased to confirm that we have today launched a new dedicated Safeguarding section of our website

Given the importance of Safeguarding that is outlined above, we feel it is really important that Safeguarding has a prominent place within our site and that there is a home for the important information that clubs, leagues, volunteers and associations may need. Within this part of our website you will now find the following information:

  • Wiltshire Cricket’s County Safeguarding Structure
  • Information for Club Safeguarding Officers, including guidance on who your CSO should be, their training needs and other pro-active things you could do within your club to raise the profile of safeguarding
  • Details of how to report a concern, including a new Wiltshire Cricket referral form
  • DBS checking and all the information you or your volunteers might require in relation to DBS checking
  • ECB Safe Hands Management System

New Dedicated Safeguarding Email Account

One of the bullet points above refers to processes for reporting concerns, and so align with the launch of our new referral form we have also set up a new dedicated safeguarding email account to take receipt of any such concerns or referrals. This email address is [email protected]

Adoption of County Safeguarding Statement

Within the Safeguarding section of our website, you will find a specific page containing policies and documentation. One such document that Wiltshire Cricket has recently adopted and that we would like to bring to your attention today is our new County Safeguarding Statement
