Marshfield CC win the 2024 Imagine Cruising Wiltshire Wallop!

Following their victory in 2023, Marshfield CC played host to the 2024 Wiltshire Wallop Finals Day, sponsored by Imagine Cruising. It was a successful day that saw the hosts retain their crown by beating Potterne in the final!

Following group stages involving 15 teams and then a quarter-final stage, the finals came down to a four team event between Avebury, Corsham, Marshfield and Potterne.

The first semi-final was competed between Avebury and Marshfield. Batting first, hosts Marshfield CC posted a strong 184-5, thanks in large to 74 from Max Bradley and double figure scores from several other batters throughout the order. For Avebury there were two wickets apiece for Charlie Ayers and Alex Ayers.

In reply, Avebury's chase was led by Thomas King who scored 42*. There were lots of contributions from others up and down the order but ultimately the target was never close as Marshfield ran out winners by 37 runs, For Marshfield, Alastair Christie starred with 3-30 with the ball.

Semi-Final 1 - Marshfield beat Avebury by 37 runs

In semi-final 2, Corsham came up against Potterne and it was Corsham who batted first. Ryan Thomas led the charge with 83 from 52 balls and was well supported by Jack Humphreys with 42 from 26. This led Corsham to a competitive total of 199-5 from their 20 overs. For Potterne, Freddie Higton took 2-28.

In reply, Potterne stormed to their target with 9 balls to spare as Omar Akram struck 86 and Neil Clark 64. Jack Humphreys continued his impressive game with 4-26 but it was not enough to stop Potterne progressing to the final

Semi-Final 2 - Potterne beat Corsham by 5 wickets

So, the final was set ... After winning the toss, Potterne oped to bowl and in return Marshfield set about placing a winning total for Potterne to chase. Their innings was led by Jeremy Bond with 76* from 40 balls and was supported by contributions of 27 from Max Bradley and 26* from Russell Lodge. For Potterne, Rory Lyttle took 2-33. The innings finished on 177-5

In reply, Potterne's Lasith Aberyathne hit 71 and Jack Bramwell finished on 28*. However, disciplined bowling from Marshfield and in particular Jeremy Bond who returned figures of 3-25 meant that Potterne finished 19 runs short on 158-6.

Final - Marshfield beat Potterne by 19 runs
