Launch of NEW ECB Scoring Pathway and Free to Access Online Scoring Course

ECB SCORER PATHWAY:

The ECB have recently launched a new scoring pathway for scorers from the recreational game all the way through to the professional game.

Please find attached a guidance document that explains the new pathway. We would highlight in particular:

BECOME AN ACO MEMBER:

The entry to the scorer pathway will require scorers to be full members of the ECB ACO. For information on this, please see below:

Membership of the ECB ACO is available to all via the ECB Website – click here for access to the membership form and to see the benefits of membership.

ECB SCORER EDUCATION COURSES:

ECB Online Scorer Course:

This course is designed to give people new to scoring the knowledge and confidence to have a go at scoring in cricket. No prior experience of scoring is required before attending the course.

Whether you plan to support junior softball cricket or a hard ball game, this course will cover the following topics:

  • Understanding the role of the Scorer
  • Recognise umpire signals and what they mean for scoring
  • Gain an understanding of both paper and electronic scoring
  • Understand how to end the game and identify results correctly
  • Have an awareness of safeguarding responsibilities whilst scoring.

The course is all completed online and can be completed all in one go or broken up into small bitesize amounts that suit your needs and schedule.

To gain your certificate, you must complete all of the online learning. There is no cost for this course and all scorers will be offered free membership to join the Association of Cricket Officials via the online learning platform on completion.

  • Scoring Techniques - This session introduces scorers to regular, repeatable scoring routines to ensure accuracy when scoring, how the umpiring and scoring teams work together for the smooth running of the game, key Laws of Cricket and how to accurately record penalty runs.
  • Duckworth, Lewis, Stern (DLS) - This session introduces scorers to the theory behind DLS, the theory to manually calculate DLS target scores, the terminology involved and how to use the DLS calculators within PCS Pro and the Play-Cricket Scoring App.
  • PCS Pro Scoring - This session introduces scorers to scoring cricket matches via the Play-Cricket Scorer Professional (PCSPro) software and database, covering all key aspects from fixture creation and team selection to methodology on how to score a match and finalise the result accurately.
  • Linear Scoring - This session introduces scorers to Linear Scoring, explains the theory behind it, why a scorer might choose to use Linear Scoring and teaches the method by putting the skills into practise to improve the scorer’s competence and confidence.
