Wiltshire Cricket issues pre-season Safeguarding newsletters for our affiliated cricket clubs
As Cricket clubs gear up to the start of the 2026 season, Wiltshire Cricket has issued a Safeguarding newsletter containing important updates across a number of areas.
Wiltshire Cricket Safeguarding Newsletter - Pre Season 2026.
Within this update, we provide important updates on a number of different topics, including:
- Digital Verification for DBS - The ECB are now offering Digital ID verification as an option for DBS applications. This provides an alternative to face‑to‑face ID verification and allows applicants to verify their identity remotely using a digital process. The Digital ID option is entirely optional and volunteers can still choose to complete a free face‑to‑face ID verification, as they have done previously. Please note, when the DBS is set up, whoever is initiating the DBS is required to select Digital ID verification, however when the applicant completes the check, they can choose to either have their ID verified face-to-face or digitally. It is important to note that there is a £4.92 cost associated with the Digital ID verification, which is paid by the applicant should they choose this route. Full details of the process, including what applicants will need and how it works, can be found in this Zendesk article: https://safehands.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/35366220165533-DBS-application-Digital-ID-verification-process

- Updated ECB Safe Hands policy - The ECB has recently updated its Safe Hands policy. This revision brings the policy in line with current legislation and guidance and reflects our commitment to reviewing and updating it every three years. The most significant change is the move to a single safeguarding policy for the whole game, covering both adults and children. The updated ECB Safe Hands policy can be accessed here; ECB Safe Hands Policy 2026. Linked to the release of this new policy, the ECB and Cricket Regulator have also updated several items in the Safeguarding kit bag, including; Club Safeguarding Policy template
- WeCare support - Club Safeguarding Officers can now access medical, mental health and well-being support through Canada Life WeCare. This is an excellent, free and entirely confidential support scheme that the ECB are providing for the Club and County Safeguarding
Officer network. The provision will also be available for immediate family members. Please contact Iestyn Lewis for futher information
