Historic Day as Wiltshire Super 9s Play Their First Ever Match
Sunday marked a significant milestone for disability cricket in the county as the Wiltshire Super 9s took to the field for their first ever fixture.
The historic occasion saw Wiltshire face Hampshire Cricket Board's Super 9s Academy in a double-header at Collingbourne Cricket Club, with two 18-over matches played either side of a fantastic tea break.
For many of the players, it was a day they will never forget. The atmosphere throughout the day was outstanding, with plenty of smiles, great cricket, and an opportunity for players to showcase their skills in a competitive and inclusive environment. As the first Super 9s fixture ever played by Wiltshire, it represented an exciting step forward for disability cricket within the county.
A huge thank you goes to Barry Reed and the entire Reed family, whose hard work and dedication helped make the day such a success. From preparing the ground and organising the event to scoring, umpiring, and providing an incredible tea between matches, their support ensured the day ran smoothly and created a memorable experience for everyone involved.
Special thanks must also go to Hampshire Cricket Board, particularly Michael, for bringing a team to Wiltshire and helping make this historic first fixture possible. The willingness of Hampshire to support the development of the programme provided Wiltshire's players with a fantastic opportunity to experience representative cricket.
While the results were secondary to the occasion, the day highlighted the growth of disability cricket across the region and the positive impact these opportunities can have on young people and adults alike.
With the first fixture now successfully completed, everyone involved hopes this will be the start of many more Super 9s matches for Wiltshire in the years to come.
Congratulations to all the players who took part in making a little piece of Wiltshire cricket history.
