Helping to remove financial barriers for children accessing Sport: Introducing charity; Game On
At Wiltshire Cricket's most recent affiliated club recreational game call, Wiltshire Cricket were very kindly joined by Fiona Carter from the charity, Game On (Get the Ball rolling) who spoke about the brilliant work that the charity does to help remove financial barriers for children wishing to participate in Sport.
As we strive to be the most inclusive and accessible team sport, one of the key considerations for Cricket clubs should be our language around things such as membership and equipment and in turn finding ways to remove financial barriers for those whom it could prevent from participating in our Sport. This is where Game On come in and could help your club …
Game On (Get the ball rolling) is a local Wiltshire charity set up to help school children (ages 4 – 18) participate in sports, by funding the costs that can otherwise be a barrier.
We work with local sports clubs and schools to support children who may need help with some or all of:
- Club Membership fees
- Essential sports kit
- Sports equipment
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to play sport, feel the joy of belonging, and experience the benefits of being part of a team.
Our model is simple – we pay the membership fees directly to the club and provide the family with a voucher for the required kit and equipment.
We don’t have any application forms or means testing.
We are currently funding children play football, netball, cricket, rugby and tennis across Wiltshire and have funding for lots more!
We would love it if clubs could help us spread awareness by including us on your websites, social media postings, local Facebook groups, local press etc.
The more people who know about us the more children we can help.
If you know of any families who could benefit from our funding please tell them about us.
