Wiltshire Cricket Grounds Association undergoes name change and welcomes guest speakers from the professional game to its AGM

The Wiltshire Cricket Grounds Association AGM took place on Sunday 6th February 2022 at Corsham CC.

Minutes from the AGM can be downloaded.

Additionally, end of year accounts for 2021 can also be downloaded.

From the minutes, a couple of points should be noted:

  • Name change - It was agreed unanimously that the Association would change its name to become the Wiltshire Cricket Grounds Assocation
  • Thanks - It was mentioned on more than one occasion that grounds volunteers from across the game should be thanked for the significant work that they have undertaken amidst the most challenging of circumstances in the past two years. This started with working throughout lockdowns in 2020 to keep grounds ready for play, to allowing cricket to continue in to early October in 2020, through to reacting at short notice to when cricket was given the go ahead for return in 2021. The pressure on our grounds has never been greater than it has been in the past two years and so the game should be grateful for how much voluntary work has been undertaken to ensure that our game has been able to maximise all windows of play that it has been given. As we go forwards, we recognise that Cricket is achieving great things in terms of its growth in to new audiences but we also recognise the continued pressure this will place on volunteer grounds people in clubs. Wiltshire Cricket urges all players at all levels of our game to remember the incredible work that our grounds volunteers do for us. With the fantastc growth of All Stars Cricket, Dynamos Cricket and Women's and Girls Cricket, together with sustained entries in to existing junior and adult competitions, Cricket is a sport that takes place seven days of the week in our clubs.

Guest Speakers

Following completion of the AGM business, the WCGA was delighted to welcome presentations from guest speakers, Phil Jeggo of the GMA and Tom Cowley (Ageas Bowl Assistant Head Groundsman) and Jack Colyer (The Oval Groundstaff).

Wiltshire Cricket is very appreciative for the time given by all guest speakers. It was wonderful to hear the first hand experiences of people working within the professional game (and who have come from Wiltshire Cricket clubs initially) as well as to learn from Phil Jeggo of the opportunities offered by the GMA:
