Wiltshire Cricket restructures Development Team
In March 2020, Wiltshire Cricket launched its new strategy; Driving Cricket’s Future. This is an ambitious strategy that sets out our ambitions to make Cricket a more diverse and inclusive Sport and one that a generation can be inspired to call “a game for me”. Since the launch of this strategy and aligned to investment from ECB, Wiltshire Cricket has seen the breadth of activities that it delivers increase steadily and this has been reflected in the increased size of our Development team. In the period since March 2020, Wiltshire Cricket Limited has also successfully merged with Wiltshire CCC to form one entity that will drive the governance of the game in the years to come. Supporting this new governance structure was the successful recruitment of five new non-executive directors in September 2021 and so now, with a new and more diverse Board in place, we are looking to the future with great excitement about what Wiltshire Cricket can achieve.
With the world having changed somewhat since March 2020, one of the initial focuses of the new Board has been re-visiting our strategy to decide how best we; a) resource our Development team to deliver the ambitions within our strategy, and, b) utilise the new investment opportunities that have presented themselves since our strategy was launched in March 2020 and post the various Covid-19 lockdowns that have previously hampered the delivery of our strategy.
The result of this review is that Wiltshire Cricket has decided to carry out some changes to the structure of its Development team with some new job titles and changes to roles and responsibilities being implemented. We have also made the decision to further increase the size of our team through the recruitment of a new Community Coach and Competitions Officer; a role that is currently being advertised with an application deadline of 21st March 2022.
Within the new Development team structure, Managing Director Peter Sykes will lead the team and specifically line manage Tom Morton, Head of Talent Pathway and Karen Smith who receives a change of job title (Business Operations Officer) to more accurately reflect her role within the organisation. Additionally, Peter will line manage Ali Goddard and Sam Dent who have both received changes to job titles and increases in roles and responsibilities, including the taking on of line management responsibilities within the team. Ali’s new title will be Cricket Development Manager (with responsibility for Schools, Junior Cricket, Coach Development) and will line manage our Community Coach and All Stars Champion, Aled Evans. Sam’s new title will be Cricket Development Manager (with responsibility for Clubs, Programmes, Women’s and Girls) with line management responsibility for Harry Mattingley, our Disability Development Officer and our new Community Coach and Competitions Officer.
The changes outlined above are borne out of a desire to create a structure that is efficient, provides clarity of roles, is mobile to new opportunities and that gives members of the team the required time to deliver their responsibilities but also the required level of support to carry out their responsibilities.
