Springfields Academy crowned regional table cricket champions
After a dominant display at the county finals, Springfields Academy qualified for the Regional Table Cricket Finals Day in Exeter. Schools from around the south-west (who had won their respective county competitions) were invited to compete at the Devon Cricket Centre, with the winner progressing to the National Table Cricket Finals taking place at Lords.
The competition included 7 teams across 7 different counties with games beginning at 10:00AM. The event structure included 2 preliminary leagues, with the winner of each progressing to a final.
Springfields began the day with a loss against a very strong Coombeshead School team (Devon), however recovered well with two comprehensive wins in their next two games against St. Edwards (Cornwall) and Bradley Stoke (Gloucestershire).
The last two results were enough to see Springfields qualify for the 1st place play-off, qualifying on runs scored as several teams had won 2 of their 3 games.
Springfields faced Winchelsea School in the final, for a place in the National Final at Lords. Winchelsea batting first, completing the first innings with a score of 254-6 after a strong bowling performance by the representatives from Wiltshire. Springfields started well scoring 24 off the first over and continued to score freely throughout, eventually finishing their innings on 312-5 off their 6 overs crowning Springfields as regional champions.
As a result, Springfields Academy have progressed to the National Final to play against 8 other Regional Champions who will battle it out in June for the national title.
Wiltshire Cricket would like to congratulate the Springfields Academy after a dominant and high-quality display, becoming the first Wiltshire team to qualify for the National Finals.
Thank you to the Lords Taverners for providing an enjoyable and inclusive platform for each team to showcase their skillsets.
