Wiltshire Cricket Safeguarding Update for Recreational Game
At our recent and inaugural affiliated club recreational game call, County Safeguarding Officer, Iestyn Lewis provided a county and game wide Safeguarding update for cricket clubs and volunteers.
Here is a breakdown of those updates:
WILTSHIRE CRICKET SAFEGUARDING UPDATE – WINTER 2025
This update is provided to club leaders and club safeguarding officers as part of Wiltshire Cricket’s commitment to developing a game-wide culture of safety, inclusion, and equity. Whilst leadership of safeguarding within your club lies with your Club Safeguarding Officer, the responsibility for delivering a welcoming, safe club rests with all club leaders and others in a position to influence.
Attached below are a range of (hopefully) useful resources:
- Wiltshire Cricket’s Winter 2025 Safeguarding newsletter - This contains news, information and signposting to useful resources
- Don’t Forget to Have Fun! What Kids Hear When Parents Cheer is an illustrated children's book that explores the emotional impact of parental behaviour in youth sports. It has been written for parents and children to read together and is based on years of research on the topic of parent involvement in youth sports. The story ends with questions to help families talk about how to support children. The core idea behind the book was to create a conversation between parents and their children about sport, from dreams and goals to expectations and support.
- 5 Questions to Ask - This covers 5 key questions parents should feel confident about asking their child's sports club or a club they're looking to join, in order to keep their child and other children safe in sport. For club leaders it is not the answer to the questions that is important, it is about accessibility and visibility of your answers, how the club would be perceived by parents/carers.
- Winter 2025 Safeguarding Checklist – A checklist to use in advance of the 2026 season to ensure compliance and to support clubs.
- ECB Safety in Cricket Presentation – a PDF of the slide deck from the recent presentation from the ECB Safety in Cricket, the presentation contains a wide range of data that has been collected from the recreational game and how cricket will be using this information to support stakeholders in making cricket a safer game.
The message and links above contain a lot of information covering a wide range of topics, therefore if any of it raises any concerns or the need for further information, please do not hesitate to Iestyn Lewis:
