Biddestone CC
Award to Biddestone CC towards the building of new home and away shelters on their second pitch
From Club Secretary, Mary Inder-Rieden ...
The grant was awarded under the theme “creating welcoming environments”.
They say a picture tells a thousand words and so perhaps the easiest way to explain the impact that the grant has had on the club is by seeing before and after photos of the second pitch shelters:

AFTER:

The facilities that were previously in place were unwelcoming, uninspiring, bordering on collapse and simply not fit for purpose with the “home” shelter being a dilapidated garden shed and the “away” shelter being made of corrugated iron with full length windows at one end.
Together they gave a very poor first impression of the Club and would not encourage anyone to take up cricket. As the second pitch is where our womens and girls’ teams, our younger juniors and our 3rd XI tend to play their matches, the impression was that these teams were considered of low importance to the club and undeserving of fit for purpose shelters which is the opposite of what the Club is aiming for.
Although the new Season is yet to get underway, numerous members have already commented on how much of an improvement the new facilities are and we have attracted new players to the Club, particularly in the Womens and Girls’ squad. It is now clear that Biddestone CC are investing in the Club for the benefit of these groups and that we are committed to providing the sort of facilities which encourage new people to want to come and play cricket in Biddestone, as well as current members to stay.
Everyone can’t wait to use the new shelters which the Club has further enhanced, by way of additional funding, by adding solar panelled lighting to further improve the overall feel of the shelters and to ensure that they feel as welcoming as possible.
