Behaviours and Inclusive Facilities
The first of Wiltshire Cricket webinars looks to educate about discriminatory behavious and help make cricket club facilities more welcoming and accessible. Below is a summary of the topics discussed:
- Microaggressions - subtly discriminatory comments often (but not exclusively) dismissed as 'just a joke' or not that serious. Certain comments can be particularly sensitive at different times as peoples tolerance, if any, for prejudice can change.
- Neutral language - removing gender stereotypes for roles in cricket (for example, batsman becomes batter) to make participation in cricket across playing and volunteer roles more accessible to the wider population.
- Welcoming facilities and environments - see features of a great facility slide for most information. Examples include: female sanitary products and bins, accessibility handles, frosted changing room windows, baby changing facility, improved noticeboards.
- Anti-discrimination posters and zero tolerance policy statement, both can be Wiltshire Cricket resourced. This demonstrates the club and its members taking a stand against discrimination and creates consequences for a breach.
- Make considerations to any appropriate and actionable changes to your club facility - is the facility fit for purpose for the diversity of people that use it?
