Case Study: Bradford on Avon Cricket Club (September 2025)

Building a Dedicated Practice Facility to Sustain Growth and Inclusion

Bradford on Avon Cricket Club has proudly unveiled its new dedicated practice facility at Culver Close, marking a major milestone in the Club’s growth and inclusivity. With three men’s teams, a women’s team, and eight youth squads, the Club had long outgrown its mobile batting cage setup, which limited safe, consistent training and placed strain on the match square. The new two lane nets—installed by Total-Play Ltd following planning approval and a lease agreement with the Town Council—offer a high-quality, ECB-compliant space for structured coaching and skill development across all age groups. Its location occupying the fourth tennis court position required extensive groundworks including a retaining wall to accommodate the nets within the available footprint.

This project was made possible through the generous support of six grant-giving organisations, including a pivotal £10,000 contribution from the

ECB's County Grant Fund that is administered and delivered by Wiltshire Cricket . Additional funding came from The Hills Group Ltd, Bradford on Avon Area Board, and several educational charities, alongside strong backing from club members and the local Town Council. The facility has already delivered immediate benefits: increased training participation and already created a longing for next season to arrive. Freed-up square availability will enable more match scheduling and reduce wear on playing surfaces.

Community response has been overwhelmingly positive, with local residents embracing the fully enclosed nets as a valuable addition to the town’s recreational landscape. Club Chairman Mike Smith praised the collective effort behind the project. A formal opening event is planned to celebrate this achievement and reinforce the Club’s commitment to nurturing talent, fostering pride, and building a resilient cricketing future for Bradford on Avon.
